Fort McMurray artist, Kendra Walters, is formally trained as an ecologist, yet left research ecology to seek a more expressive way to share her fascination with the natural world. Vibrant acrylic painting is the vehicle she was searching for. Painting as a career since 2008, Kendra has quickly achieved artistic recognition. She has been accepted into the Federation of Canadian Artist and enjoys participating in art shows throughout western Canada.
Kendra’s inspiration is found hiking and traveling in the natural world. The colours and textures seen while exploring, inspire her to always have her camera close by to catch fleeting moments. These moments are always accompanied by a feeling, and it is these feelings that Kendra reproduces on canvas. The feeling of the moment sets the mood for her paintings, and determines the level of detail and colour values. Kendra loves to get lost in her paintings and frequently doesn’t sleep when driven by the call of a painting. Her greatest joy is when someone experiences great emotion upon seeing a completed piece. Her buzz while painting, and the impact the pieces have on her patrons are the reasons that Kendra is an artist.
